The Washington Society of Professional Engineers (WSPE) was chartered in 1937 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). The Washington Society of Professional Engineers Educational Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit educational foundation in 1982 to further the goals of the Society in support of engineering education.
The purposes of the Foundation are to support engineering education by:
The Foundation is organized and functions in accordance with Internal Revenue Service guidelines as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Foundation’s EIN is 91-1185123, and the Foundation’s non-profit status can be verified at www.irs.gov/app/pub-78/.
The Foundation is governed by a Board of 13 trustees, all members of the Washington Society of Professional Engineers, elected to operate the Foundation as an independent tax-exempt corporation of the State of Washington. Twelve trustees are elected by the serving members of the Board for three-year terms. The 13th member is the Scholarship Chair of the Washington Society of Professional Engineers, who is an ex-officio member with vote, by virtue of his/her office within the State Society.
The officers of the Foundation consist of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, all elected by the Board for a one-year term. Operation of the Foundation is governed by its Bylaws, which are included in the Foundation Handbook (Acrobat PDF).Officers:

The Foundation receives contributions to support award of Foundation scholarships and to support the State MATHCOUNTS program. It also receives contributions to support individual WSPE chapter scholarship and educational support (Bridge Building, Model Cities, FIRST Robotics, etc.) programs. Disbursement of WSPE Chapter funds are at the discretion of the individual WSPE Chapter President. Disbursement of State MATHCOUNTS funds is at the discretion of the WSPE State MATHCOUNTS Coordinator. Disbursement of Foundation scholarship funds is determined by the Board of Trustees based on the recommendations of the WSPE Scholarship Chair. Many Washington students have received Foundation Scholarships.
Contributions to the Foundation may be made by sending cash, a check made payable to WSPE Educational Foundation, or securities (stocks and bonds) to the Treasurer at the following address: Leonard Byrne, PE, 1302 North Skipworth Court, Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Please indicate how the contribution is to be used. Options are:
Alternatively, donors may designate the Foundation scholarship endowment fund by checking “Educational Foundation” on the annual NSPE dues statement. To designate a donation to the discretionary scholarship fund, the donor needs to check the “Scholarship” box on the dues statement. These choice boxes for voluntary contributions are found at the bottom of the annual NSPE dues form.
To recognize donors who have supported the Foundation endowment and scholarship fund, an Educational Foundation Honor Roll has been established. Recognition levels are:

– contributed $1,000 to $1,999 to the Foundation

– contributed $500 to $999 to the Foundation

Charitable giving can be an important element of year-end tax and estate
planning, and your financial advisor can help you structure your gifts so they
benefit your charities as well as your overall financial plan. The Washington
Society of Professional Engineers Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable
organization which means your donations are fully tax deductible (for donations
up to 50% of your taxable income). You may designate your gift to either the
“Scholarship” or the Endowment fund.
On the annual NSPE dues statement, you can designate the “Endowment” by checking
the “Educational Foundation” box. To designate a donation to the scholarship
fund, you check the “scholarship” box. These choice boxes for voluntary
contributions are found at the bottom of your annual NSPE membership dues form.
